lay resources
Equipping lay people with a heart for ministry in Christian counseling with appropriate resources.
we want to help you help others
In addition to the financial, professional and academic assistance, the Foundation was also formed to equip lay people with a heart for ministry in Christian counseling with appropriate resources.
Why? Generally speaking, it has been determined that 60-65% of the people who are in need of spiritual, emotional or even mental assistance can be helped by lay people who have a heart for support ministry. There are another 30-35% of people in need of assistance best served by professional clinical Christian counselors. The smallest percentage of people who are dealing with emotional and mental illness are in need of the highest level of professional psychiatric help.
This means that well over half of those who are in need of spiritual, emotional and mental support can be served by brothers and sisters in Christ who have the heart and tools to minister to the majority of those in the body who are hurting and suffering.
BELOW ARE OUR LAY TOOLS & RESOURCES
In-Step: a weekend seminar
One of the resources The Lyndon Foundation offers is a weekend seminar designed by Dr. Grubbs’ entitled, “In-Step: Walking with God’s People Through Difficulty.” The purpose of this seminar is to help gifted lay people to become pastoral care helpers with the confidence to minister to those in difficulty, struggle, anguish, or grief.
The “In-Step” seminar covers a model of lay counseling that addresses most of life’s heartache and misery, helping to lead people out of darkness to the Light of Jesus. Included in the seminar are the important aspects of recognizing when it’s time to refer someone to a professional for counseling help and what to do when facing the serious issues of abuse and suicide.
The “In-Step” seminar has been presented to dozens of people and churches across the metro area and many people have already been served through this resource.
Contact us if you would like to learn more about having the “In-Step” seminar presented in your church or group.
Dr. Grubbs’ Books
The Foundation’s Director of Counseling is Dr. Michael Grubbs, a well-respected and well-known Christian counselor, coach, and author with a professional practice here in the Kansas City Metro area.
Dr. Grubbs has written two books, in particular, that have been published, read and used nationally and internationally to provide wisdom, understanding, direction, and hope for those who are struggling with poor habits, addictions, and/or their identity as a Christian, a child of God. These two books serve as excellent resources for those involved in lay mentoring, helping ministry roles, and for resources for counseling clients.
Dr. Grubbs’ first book, entitled, “Broken Chains,” explains the underlying cause for our habits and addictions. It also offers liberty from those habits and addictions as well as a method for maintaining that liberty. The book is entirely based on biblical truth as applied to one’s individual reality. Part One of the book details the nature and cause of addictiveness, Part Two explains how one can be freed from habits and addictions, and Part Three describes how one remains free. The book is designed to be read by an individual as well as by a group of two or more people. It also contains end-of-chapter questions that assist in self-reflection as well as the facilitation of group discussions.
TOP DOWN THINKING IN A BOTTOM UP WORLD
Dr. Grubbs’ second book, “Top Down Thinking in a Bottom Up World,” focuses on the on the central truth found in Romans 12:2, which is, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (NLT)
Dr. Grubbs recognizes it is the behavior and customs of this world that play a significant part in shaping our identity from an early age, and it is from this identity we generally choose our options for life and seek our purpose. This, in turn, determines our actions and our behaviors. BUT WHAT IF we did it differently? What if our identity was formed in heaven? What if God wants to transform our thinking to His thinking, our purpose to His purpose? This would certainly change our actions, our behaviors.
